BaptismBaptism, as noted in the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church (Second Vatican Council) incorporates us into the Church, orients us to the worship of God, and gives us a rebirth as sons and daughters of God. Baptism imposes obligations to live a holy life; its grace can never be lost through sin nor can the sacrament ever be repeated. To say that those who are called explicitly to the Church, Baptism is necessary for their salvation. Those who are convinced that Jesus is Lord, are obliged to seek admission to his Church through baptism.

In baptism, the Church reveals herself to the Church and to the world as a community, a Body of Christ. In identifying with the sufferings and death of Christ Jesus, Baptism points the way to a share in his resurrection and glorification. (Catholicism, Richard P. McBrien)
